Rungu Dualie® Double-Wheel E-Bike makes me wonder if it’s possible to make a better E-Bike for off-road terrain. I’ve ridden at least a dozen E-Bikes in the mountains on trails and off-road. The off-road terrain our team rode with Rungu Dualie could not have been possible on any other single-front-wheel E-Bike without some serious wipeouts. TBH, I’m not sure a Quad ATV would have worked in those conditions either.
The team behind Rungu Dualie set out to design and build an E-Bike that can replace a Quad ATV. And they kind of did it. Double-front-wheels give the extra stability and control of an ATV. The E-Bike parts and pedals make it an E-Bike. So, you can handle terrain that E-Bikes can’t, but you can still hunt where Quad ATVs can’t go. All the stealth and silence, but also the control and stability at a fraction of the weight of a Quad ATV.
First-hand experience validated Rungu Dualie claims. The team at Final Stalk had its doubts. Were the two front wheels a gimmick? Read to the end to see why we recommend Rungu Dualie so highly. You’ll see the Final Stalk exclusive Rungu Dualie packages, we recommend for your next hunt.
Experiencing Rungu Dualie

Hunting with Rungu Dualie
Fall 2025. September again and it had rained hard for three days straight. Monsoon weather. And it was still raining. Our hunting group just picked up two new Rungu Dualie Double-Wheel E-Bikes for the trip up to camp at 9,500 ft elevation. On un-maintained, rutted roads. In slick mud. And it was getting dark.
I had a hard time imagining a better E-Bike test opportunity or conditions that were more unpleasant.
To our surprise, our two Rungu Dualies made it! Three and a half miles up steep terrain in severe mud. Though we did do a mid-ride modification and could have used better lighting (more on this later), the E-Bikes worked rather flawlessly. The experience confirmed Rungu Dualie’s advertised performance capabilities. And they did so with all of the advantages of access, ease and stealth of the E-Bikes we’ve tested in the past.
I sincerely doubt we could have made the ascent on single-front-wheel E-Bikes. We would have had to park or walk the bikes most of the way. The mud was just too slippery.
If that “dark and stormy night” experience didn’t completely convince us the superiority of the double-front wheel design, the next week certainly did. We harvested two mature bull elk, one 5×6 and one 6×6, while riding the same muddy trails up and down the mountain. We didn’t “slide out and bust” like we used to with all the other E-Bikes. Full control – all the time. We could focus on the hunt instead of worrying about washouts.
In all of our past e-biking experiences, washing out while riding in the back country was a matter of chance. Riding down a dirt or un-maintained road, I could wipeout on a single-front-wheel E-Bike – my front wheel losing traction on a gentle turn or my rear wheel sliding out sideways just because I braked too hard. Washouts just didn’t happen with Rungu Dualie.
We confirmed Rungu Dualie’s core product differentiator. The double-wheel design just delivers superior, confidence-inspiring traction and stability on slick and uneven terrain.
The experience in sand

Moose, a partner in Final Stalk, lives and hunts in Florida. No mountains but lots of sand.
Riding the sandy trails of central Florida is washout city with a single-front-wheel E-Bike or dirtbike. There just isn’t any front-end grip when you negotiate tight turns in the sandy back country. Dropping the bike because of a washout is part of the experience.
Except with Rungu Dualie.
Justin experienced first-hand Rungu’s claim of excellent performance in soft terrain. Miles of trail riding demonstrated just how capable Rungu Dualie with no washouts. He averaged 20-30 miles per charge on sandy back country trails without having to stop and push or walk around the “sand trap.”
It’s fair to say we’ve gone a long way to validate Rungu’s “Go Anywhere” performance claim.
Incredibly rugged
Can your E-Bike survive being dragged on a highway at 60 mph?

We dragged one Rungu Dualie on the highway before the first mountain climb. Due to a mistake in setting up the Rungu Dualie Hitch Rack, the rear wheel on one bike fell out of the hitch rack tray while driving. We dragged it for a few hundred yards before stopping. Quick inspection. I couldn’t even tell if the bike had had an accident. I made a minor handlebar adjustment, reset the bike on the rack and drove on.
Impressive.
The on-road experience
On road, Rungu Dualie feels like riding a Harley. The extra front wheel adds inertia that you have to overcome in turns with counter-steering much like on the famous street-bike. Compared to riding any single-wheel E-Bike on road, it’s overkill – like driving a Jeep Wrangler on the freeway. Overkill, but like a Jeep, completely workable on road.
Comparing it to an ATV, it’s way safer on road. Because I can bank Rungu Dualie into a turn, I never have to counterbalance (move my whole body off of the four-wheeler and into the turn). And I never have the worry about getting thrown.
In summary, Rungu Dualie out-performs E-Bikes and probably Quad ATVs off-road ; on-road it’s very ridable, and much safer than a Quad ATV.
The Learning Curve
We expected a long learning curve. Nope. The Rungu team gave us a brief training in a Walmart parking lot. After a five-minute parking lot ride, we were ready to go.
The team at Rungu developed a four-part set of training videos (including how to change gears correctly). The videos cover what we learned in the parking lot and a lot more.
“Opportunities for improvement”
We experienced two issues with the E-Bike that the team at Rungu addressed since our September 2025 adventure.
- Front Mudguards. Within a mile of the start of our uphill, rain-soaked journey the front wheels collected so much mud that they locked up. The half-inch space between the mudguard and the tire filled with mud, blocking the wheel entirely. It took 20 minutes (under the worst conditions – dark and in the rain) to remove the mudguards so we could continue the ascent. We made it to the top but a lot muddier than we started.

The team at Rungu improved their integrated “mud-diverter” design, and I have yet to find a day muddy enough to prove it out. Experience with less muddy days shows promise.
- Headlight. Our two Rungu Dualie models have the same stock headlights as brands like Rambo, Bakcou and QuietKat. Because they were mounted to the bike frame, the front cargo racks on our bikes interfered with the light. That made it more difficult to see the trail. Front Cargo Racks were very new additions to Rungu’s accessory line-up. They’ve since standardized Rungu Dualie builds with adapters that move the headlights to the front of each cargo rack. Problem solved!
Rungu Dualie is an E-ATV disguised as an E-Bike – Clever!

Technically Rungu Dualie is a reverse trike, but with the dual front wheels so close together, is it an E-ATV? Other hunters (and now us) say that Rungu Dualie operates in a different league from E-Bikes. This is true – our take. Rungu Dualie has capabilities of a Quad ATV (e.g. not washing out in slick mud) but it’s narrow enough to ride motorcycle trails. Texas Motor Press Association even voted Rungu Dualie the Best Trail Bike of the Year in 2022. And because it uses E-Bike components and specifications, you can ride Rungu Dualie on trails and land prohibited to Quad ATVs and motorbikes.
That’s very clever.
Comparing Rungu Dualie to Single-Front-Wheel E-Bikes
Besides the double-front-wheels, our team found eight points of differentiation between Rungu Dualie and other E-Bikes intended for hunting.
1. More Power – Respectable Real World Range
All Rungu Dualie models use custom versions of the Bafang BBSHD. The Rungu team sources custom motors from Bafang that deliver a nominal 1120 Watts of power with a peak power output near 1,500 W (just under 2 hp) – a 12% increase over other 48V mid-drive E-Bikes (like Bakcou Elite Mule). Rungu started shipping 52V powerplants back in 2018 instead of the standard 48V. In the past year, other brands have begun to switch to the 52V standard to get the extra 12% power output.
The controls, throttle and pedal assist are familiar because they’re the same as the Bakcou Mule I tested last year. There are five levels of assist and throttle power controlled with a keypad mounted on the left-side handlebar. The display is almost identical, but Rungu mounts the display below the handle-bar level at the front center of the bike. The mounting location protects the display from branches, or if you decide to flip the bike over to replace a tire.

Rungu Dualie has respectable range for a heavier E-Bike. Rungu Dualie weighs about 10 lbs. more than a single-front-wheel E-Bike because of the extra fork and front wheel. We used the 1,000 Wh battery (the larger of the two they offer). With our packs, each of us weighed around 240 lbs. and used 70% of the battery on the 3.5 mile, “dark and stormy night” climb. No surprise given the muddy conditions and steep terrain. On the flatter trails in sand, Justin regularly achieves 20-30 miles range per charge. These range figures are consistent with Rungu’s advertising and their range-estimating tool.
Like other E-Bikes, the batteries are easy to swap out to extend your range. You can strap a second battery to the cargo rack on the back of the Rungu Dualie. Then deploy it as a spare.
2. Fatter Tires and Low-Pressure Tubes
Fatter tires grip more. Like the Bakcou Mule Elite, Rungu uses Maxxis Minion FBR/FBF tires on the front (F) and rear (R). The difference is the size. Rungu uses the 20% wider 4.8 in. versions.
That’s a lot of flotation.
Rungu innertubes use “Presta Valves” to make traction on sand and snow a reality. Presta valves have a feature that locks in pressure as low as 4 psi. That’s what you need for sand and snow. “Shraeder Valve” (think car tire) can go flat at pressures below 10 psi because the valve mechanism fails.

Our bikes also include Tannus ARMOUR tire liners to prevent flats. According to the team at Rungu, Tannus ARMOUR liners protect against “Pinch-Flats” and goat-head or cactus thorns. Pinch-Flats occur when you’re running at tire pressures below 6 PSI (like we do in the sand). We haven’t had any flats, so I guess they’re working well.
Rungu also offers a “Mesquite-Proof” tire liner. It’s a modification made for hunting in Texas and the southwest – Mesquite tree country. Tannus ARMOUR liners can’t prevent flats from Mesquite thorns, but Mesquite-Proof can.
3. Massive Low-End Torque
Rungu offers the highest torque output in the E-Bike world because of a rock-crawling first gear. On our Rungu Dualies, we used the BOX Prime 9 Gearing. The first gear combines the Rungu-custom 30T drive sprocket with a 50T rear sprocket. The combination produces more than 220 ft-lbs of torque at the rear wheel in power level 5. That’s what we used to get us up steep and muddy terrain.
There’s so much low-end torque that Rungu Dualie can tow a pickup truck. Don’t believe me? Check out their video.
Like with the Bakcou Mule Elite, the chain and sprockets are the weak link in the system. Rungu uses steel instead of alloy cassettes and employs an electronic clutch that activates during shifting. We didn’t break a chain or cassette in our testing, but we also followed the rules we learned with our Bakcou Mule Elite test. And Rungu has ample guidance in their training videos. Watching their videos costs less than a cassette or chain replacement.
4. Longer Frame Geometry = Better Climbing
A longer wheelbase lets you climb steeper hills in the saddle. Rungu Dualie’s wheelbase is six to twelve inches longer than most single-front-wheel E-Bikes. At 55 inches, Rungu Dualie has the same wheelbase as a typical Trail bike. The saddle keeps you well ahead of the rear wheel so you can ride saddled up 30%+ inclines. Try doing that on Bakcou, QuietKat or Himiway, and you flip backwards.
5. Dual Front Brakes You Can Actually Use
Rungu Dualie’s longer wheelbase also lets you take full advantage of dual-front-wheel braking. As motorcycle riders know, all of the stopping power comes from the front brakes. And because Rungu Dualie has a longer wheelbase, the same is true for Rungu Dualie. You can brake hard using the front brakes down a 30% grade without flipping you and your gear head-over-handlebars – the experience with single-front-wheel E-Bikes.

Rungu’s dual-front-brakes double stopping power, too. Rungu Dualie E-Bikes all come with a dual 203 mm rotor hydraulic brake system for the front and a single 203 mm rotor hydraulic brake in the rear. The left brake lever controls both front brake calipers. Having two FAT tires and two sets of brakes pays dividends when trying to control a descent on a 30% grade mountain trail.
6. Rungu’s Gear Shield Protects the Transmission From Sticks and Grass

The Gear Shield is a two-part system that keeps grasses, weeds and sticks from damaging the derailleur and breaking chains. Rungu Dualie’s control, traction and stability make off-trail riding a reality. Off-trail riding carries the risk of catching a stick in the chain and destroying the transmission. One shield stops sticks from mangling the derailleur. The second shield keeps grasses and weeds from wrapping the cassette and preventing gear shifts
7. Rungu’s Skid Plate Avoids Wrecking Your Motor When Crossing Logs
The Skid Plate upgrade lets you do log crossings and rock crawling without worry. Not enough clearance over log and you can take out your motor. Made from HDPE plastic, the Skid Plate slides over rocks and logs when your ground clearance is close.

8. Designed and built in the USA
Replacement parts are available and easy to get. The team at Rungu build each Rungu Dualie to order from parts that they design or source from China, Taiwan and the US. They even manufacture a number of parts in their southern California factory. They offer an industry standard, two-year warranty on all parts and components.
Rungu continues to innovate on their patented two-front wheel design. They developed the Gear Shield to address the needs of hunter customers who rode through fields. They responded to our mud-guard feedback with improvements. And quick. Operating an E-Bike in places no other E-Bike can go, it makes sense for the company to come up with gear and accessories that no other E-Bike company will ever think you need.
Rungu Dualie Accessories we recommend
Here are the accessories that Final Stalk believes you’ll need for your next hunt:
Trailers
We used both the Rungu Deer Cart and the Rungu Cargo Trailers for hauling game and gear. They each have pros and cons depending on the terrain you plan to use them.
On rutted un-improved road conditions like those in the mountains, the Cargo Trailer is the way to go. The single-rear-wheel tracks better and doesn’t flip over like the Deer Cart when one of its wheels goes in a rut. The Cargo Trailer can operate at higher speeds and has a kickstand. You can park it and then go scout the trees with the bike. On the other hand, it’s almost as big as the bike, has a payload of 100 lbs. and is difficult to store when you’re not using it.

For gravel roads and more predictable terrain, the Deer Cart has distinct advantages. It carries up to 220 lbs. and it’s easy to break down so you can deploy only when you harvest. It has a top towing speed of 10 mph, which is annoying. A small rut can cause the Deer Cart to flip if you go too fast.
Cargo Racks
Two of the models come standard with the Rear Cargo rack, which can support 180 lbs. That’s a deer draped over the back if you don’t want to tow a trailer.
There’s a new Front Cargo Rack that can support 50 lbs. over the two front wheels. It’s designed to hold a 15 qt. cooler.
Rungu Dualie Hitch Rack
We had problems with this on the road, but when you strap down the bike correctly it works great. The Hitch Rack supports one bike and frees up the bed of your truck for all of your other gear. It mounts to a 2” hitch and only weighs 38 lbs. making it easy to remove and store when you’re not carrying a Rungu Dualie.
The Tractor Saddle
Rungu’s FS-CR saddle makes a bumpy ride way more comfortable. Rungu’s stock saddle is softer than the ones we’ve found on other brands, but it’s still a bike saddle. Rungu offers the FS-CR saddle which is as wide as a tractor saddle and has its own recliner-like padding and suspension.
Final Stalk Final Take
Rungu Dualie’s Double-Wheel Design really does have “Go Anywhere” capabilities. Mud – not a problem. Steep hills up AND down – easy. Dirt trails, yes. Soft sand – piece of cake. It just works and works well.
If you hunt on difficult terrain – sandy, muddy, steep, this is the “E-Bike” for you. If you’ve ever washed out on an E-Bike and wish there was one that didn’t, Rungu Dualie is for you. If you hunt with a Quad ATV, sell it and buy a Rungu Dualie. You won’t be sorry.
Having ridden Rungu Dualie on the good, bad and the ugly, we decided not just to recommend it, but to offer it as gear in our store. We worked with Rungu to come up with versions exclusive to Final Stalk.
